Week 17 – Discipline and Permission

My Focus

The virtue I’m working on identifying this week is Discipline. Now being that this is a virtue, I am not referring to beating the kids! Webster’s dictionary defines discipline as: 1. Training expected to produce a specific type or pattern of behavior, esp. training that produces moral or mental improvement. 2. Controlled behavior resulting from disciplinary training. These are the types of discipline I am seeking to see in others as well as myself. I think the simplest way to describe discipline is doing the right thing when nobody is watching simply because you know it’s what you should be doing or what needs to be done – keeping focused on the goal.

Everything that we have been doing over the past 16 weeks has set us up to be disciplined: writing our Definite Major Purpose, the Blueprint Builder, the Laws of the Mind, creating chore/service cards, positive affirmations, movie poster, trailer version, etc. Controlling ones thoughts has been amplified over the past 10 weeks beginning with not allowing ourselves to have opinions (see Week 6 Colors and Shapes and Images – Oh My! And did I forget to mention OPINIONS?), and the remarkable experience and revelation of how opinionated most everyone is. We moved directly from no opinions into the 7 Day Mental Diet – now here is a challenge for you! (see Week 7 The Seven Day Mental Diet – The Challenge Just Got Real!) This diet has proven to be a life-long experience for me. Eliminate the negative. Accentuate the positive. Not as easy as it might sound, but through discipline it is achievable. Over the past nine weeks I have actually accomplished the completion of the diet three times! That’s what I call progress!

 Repeat = Discipline

Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do. Simply, self-discipline enables you to think first and act afterward.” Napoleon Hill

The 7 Day Mental Diet forces one to definitely control what you think. And quickly! The Law of Substitution is invaluable for this exercise! You absolutely cannot think two things at once. So substituting a positive thought for a negative thought is vitally important to accomplish success with the diet. The key is to make sure you substitute the negative thought within 7 seconds! If you are a slow thinker this might be a problem for you! Just saying…

My point is that with proper thinking discipline becomes enjoyable. All the tasks that you really don’t want to do become effortless, and you just get them done. I have a number of major chores that have needed to be done for quite some time. Packing away Christmas decorations is at the top of the list right now as I have Christmas stuff all over my living room and dining room as I write this! And, I have a lot of Christmas stuff (exterior and interior). I have promised myself to work on this chore (I’m really rather anal about the process because it all has to be packed a particular way, and I will not pack away lights that are not ALL working properly) at least an hour every evening this week and through the weekend if necessary to accomplish this task. It’s really a time-suck, but regardless of the challenge I’m enjoying it anyway. Why, you might ask – because my thinking is right. And, this is my major discipline for the week in my home.

I am also being more disciplined with my sitting. I am loving the peace and tranquility that I feel when concentrating my efforts and focus on my connection with the universe. This connection inspires discipline like no other. It inspires harmony in everything I do. It envelops me with the power that I contain within my being. And to further accentuate this connection I promise to give myself permission to access the use of the power within me, to be of services to others, and to be happy within myself. I’ve got the POWER!

Week 16 – On Being Kind

The Universe

Following the concept of Benjamin Franklin’s development of virtues, the virtue of this week is Kindness. There is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act of kindness creates a ripple effect with no logical end. Consider this – it has been said that if you perform two acts of kindness a day, and the recipients go on to perform two acts of their own, more than 1,000 acts of kindness can be shared in just 10 days. But if each of those same people performed five acts, more than 19 million acts of kindness could be shared in just 10 days! Now image if everyone on planet Earth would perform 5 acts of kindness everyday – the rippling effect would change the world!

Since Sunday I have gone about my day-to-day activities with the thought of sharing kindnesses along the way and secretly providing kind acts to others anonymously. This has been extremely entertaining for me. The most important observation I have had is that most people are routinely kind to others. Most people are compassionate to others when they see someone upset or worried about something. Most people are courteous and say “please” and “thank you”. I witness people supporting, promoting, acknowledging, helping, complimenting – the list goes on and on.

However, it’s interesting to note that so many people are shocked when someone performs a kind act for them. As a society we have come to expect the worse from people and many don’t quite know how to react to kindnesses shown to them. I find this sad, but plan to make every effort in my realm of the universe to show this kindness and compassion to everyone I cross paths with from now on. Awareness definitely influences behavior. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been kind and polite. What I am referring to is situations such as when someone flips me off on the roadway – instead of flipping back or cussing at them, I plan to wave and mouth “sorry”, even if I happen to have the right-of-way. Or, when someone is angry about something totally unrelated to me and decides to take it out on me – “I’m sorry you’re having a bad day, is there anything I can do to make it better?”

In other words I plan to think positively regardless of whatever the other person’s negativity might be and try to make their world a little better in the process. I plan to treat everyone with politeness and kindness, even the people who are rude or sarcastic. Realizing that they are having a bad day or they just are not very nice people does not mean that I have to stop being a nice person and join them in their surliness! Henry James once said,” Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind.” I like that. I can do that. I can be that. I can be what I will to be.

Week 15 – The Jigsaw Puzzle of Our Mind

Restructuring our minds thought patterns can be compared to putting together a jigsaw puzzle. In the beginning of this magnificent journey we must build a strong foundation. This is similar to the frame of the puzzle that holds all other pieces within it. The development of a strong goal, our Definite Major Purpose (DMP), forms the roots of our foundation, the framework. This DMP must be written in precise and meaningful words that we relay and repeat incessantly to our subconscious (the” subby”) mind. We must include in our DMP our Personal Pivotal Needs (PPNs), those things that ignite passion in our soul; those things that make our life meaningful. Hannel states, “We manifest more and more life as our thought becomes clarified and takes higher planes. This is obtained with greater facility as we use word pictures that are clearly defined, and relieved of the conceptions attached to them on lower planes of thought.”

To further enhance our DMPs impact on the subby, we must include messages of positive affirmations (the puzzle pieces) on a daily basis. We must come to realize what truly unlimited potential lies within us! As Og Mandino so eloquently points out, we are – you and I, “…nature’s greatest miracle”. Of all the animals on planet Earth, we are the only creatures with the ability to think and reason, to invent, to study, to become whatever we choose to become. When you think about it, how utterly awesome is that!

By eliminating opinions and negative thoughts from our mind we learn to instill the power of positive thinking. As Napoleon Hill states in his book Think and Grow Rich, “we become what we think about”. Simply put, we are as powerful as our thoughts. Positive thinking brings about positive experiences in our lives. The puzzle pieces are taking shape.

Benjamin Franklin devised a method (a chart) to develop virtuous traits. By learning to observe a particular virtue in others as well as ourselves over the course of a week, we can develop consistency in ingraining those traits into our subconscious thought – more puzzle pieces.

Applying all the above with love in our hearts for all living things and being in harmony with the universe brings us bliss beyond our imaginations. Haanel states, “In order to possess vitality thought must be impregnated with love. Love is a product of the emotions. It is therefore essential that the emotions be controlled and guided by the intellect and reason.” How easy it is to do all things, even the difficult tasks in our lives, when we choose to do them with love. And most importantly, we must love ourselves and tend to our personal needs to be able to provide for others the love we have to share. Our puzzle begins to take shape and is a beautiful thing to observe.

And we must give. We must give our love in abundance. We must give our services to others without expectation of reciprocation. We must give our ears to listen to others. We must support any that need our support as much as we are capable of lending that support.

Finally, we must seek our connection with the collective Universal Mind. The only path to this achievement is through silence. Haanel states, “Insight is a product of the world within (our subconscious mind) and is developed in the Silence, by concentration.” Therefore we MUST sit in silence to achieve the connection and the harmony that we seek. Through this connection we will definitely be on the road to completing our mental “puzzle”.

Great Evening Everyone!  If you are reading this you have something to celebrate.  We mhappy new yearade it through another year.  What a way to start it off with knowing I am Nature’s greatest miracle.  That statement is powerful within itself.  MKMMA is helping me to understand that very lesson in life.  Once you learn how to utilize your God-given tools your opportunities are limitless.

From everything that happen in 2014 was very timely my readings along with my life circumstances,  The subby is starting to cooperate instead of being rebellious.  It’s easy to do and easier not to do, I’ve learned that you just have to do.  The readings of Haanel had us to focus on harmony this week, something I long for.  He also touch on why we do think so negatively. Once again it was a very intense week.  I have to learn to practice what I’m learning…

Week 14 – Harmony

The manifestation of harmony is a beautiful thing to watch unfold. This past week I have observed many miraculous events in my world, but the most miraculous of all has been the peace, beauty, love, and harmony I have felt. In my silent moments I have felt the harmonious  connection with the Omnipotent presence of the Universal Energy. In my outer world I have witnessed the manifestation of love and harmony in friends and family that were ready to do battle had I not reacted in such a way that defused their negativity and replaced it with serenity!

Today, I refuse negativity of self and of others.

Today, I extend love effortlessly to all that enter my realm.

Today, I listen to others and offer words of kindness and encouragement rather than opinions.

Today, I allow others to feel what they feel without trying to convince them otherwise.

Today, I feel immense gratitude for even the smallest things.

Today, I enjoy being in the “present”.

Today, I love and appreciate myself.

Today, I am able to harmonize the situations in my life.

Today, I am living in accordance with my Definite Major Purpose in life.

Today, I am aware that the energy of the Universe is within me.

Haanel is very clear about how to achieve this “oneness” with the Universal Mind. “The Universal Mind, being infinite and omnipotent, has unlimited resources at its command, and when we remember that it is also omnipresent, we cannot escape the conclusion that we must be an expression or manifestation of that Mind.

A recognition and understanding of the resources of the subconscious mind will indicate that the only difference between the subconscious and the Universal is one of degree. They differ only as a drop of water differs from the ocean. They are the same in kind and quality, the difference is one of degree only.

Do you, can you, appreciate the value of this all-important fact; do you realize that a recognition of this tremendous fact places you in touch with Omnipotence? The subconscious mind being the connecting link between the Universal Mind and the conscious mind, is it not evident that the conscious mind can consciously suggest thoughts which the subconscious mind will put into action, and as the subconscious is one with the Universal, is it not evident that no limit can be placed upon its activities?

A scientific understanding of this principle will explain the wonderful results which are secured through the power of prayer. The results which are secured in this way are not brought about by any special dispensations of providence, but on the contrary, they are the result of the operation of a perfectly natural law. There is, therefore, nothing either religious or mysterious about it.

Yet there are many who are not ready to enter into the discipline necessary to think correctly, even though it is evident that wrong thinking has brought failure.

Thought is the only reality; conditions are but the outward manifestations; as the thought changes, all outward or material conditions must change in order to be in harmony with their creator, which is thought.”

Wow! Our thoughts are responsible for every aspect of our personal existence! This is not to say that bad things don’t happen to good people, but it is to say that the problem is not the problem. Our attitude about the problem, is the problem. Our thinking is the ultimate game changer!

Haanel goes on to say, “If you enter into the discipline necessary to bring about a radical change in your life, you must do so deliberately, after giving the matter careful thought and full consideration, and then you must allow nothing to interfere with your decision.

This discipline, this change of thought, this mental attitude will not only bring you the material things which are necessary for your highest and best welfare, but will bring health and harmonious conditions generally.

If you wish harmonious conditions in your life, you must develop an harmonious mental attitude.”

Through our training with the MKMMA, we are taught exactly what we need to do and how to go about achieving this manifestation. Nothing in my 65 years on planet Earth has been so profound and enriching to my life than my involvement in this program. And the astounding part is that I’m only halfway through the program. This program is worth its weight in gold or diamonds or rubies!. So to find your connection –
